Acupuncture Foundation Professional Association

The Acupuncture Foundation Professional Association (AFPA) is the longest established Independent professional register of acupuncturists and practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Ireland.

The AFPA was established in 1987 and is responsible for the regulation and maintenance of a Register of Acupuncturists who work within the guidelines set out in 2006 by the Department of Health and Children.

Our members are graduates from many Colleges in Ireland and abroad and all are bound by a Code of Ethics and Practice which is strictly enforced by the AFPA.

Health Insurance Cover

VHI, Laya Healthcare, GloHeath and Aviva Hiberian Health all recognise that members of the Acupuncture Foundation Professional Association (AFPA) are properly trained acupuncturists. As a result these health insurance companies will contribute towards the cost of your treatments at my practice - the exact amount depends on what plan you are on and what other eligible costs you accumulate in a year.

Other health insurance schemes also cover treatments by AFPA members, these include ESB and Garda Medical Scheme among others. I would however recommend that you check with your insurance company prior to starting treatment to confirm that your individual policy covers it. Patients can also claim tax relief on a Form Med 1 which is available from the Revenue Commissioners.
